Main reason-
Why bother putting thousands into a tiny little spineless 4 cylinder that would still come shy of a V6's potential. 4 bangers are still only good for one thing: 1. economy.
The laws of physics don't change. There still is no replacement for displacement. Plus 4 bangers sound weaney too (unless their turning like 9 or 10,000 RPM)[/b]
Dude, you've got the wrong idea about 4 bangers. Even I can appreciate a modded Zetec. You don't soup up a 4 cyl to beat up on SVTs and Mustangs, you do it for the challenge. To me, a Zetec Contour with mods equalling the output of a Duratec is really cool, even if I could beat it. Show me a Zetec that can beat an SVT and I'll show you my favorite Contour (turbocharge, baby).

And as far as the aftermarket availability goes, Duratecs are far behind the Zetec. Sure I can supercharge my V6, but all the little things that you can do to the Zetec almost outweigh that. And you can always t-charge the I4. If you wanna race out of the box, get an SVT. If you want to show everyone that you can make something out of virtually nothing (no offense guys) and impress everyone even more when you open the bonnet, then get a Zetec and make it go. wink
