Are you still using the filter in the stock air box?? If you are then this whole concept will have a positive effect on performance. How much? I don't know. Colder air is better. I don't think you can get more restrictive than the stock res through the fender wall so if you just pull cooler air through there you're good. You'd basically just be getting the air from farther away. If I understand what you guys are talking about.
Just my $.02.

Yeah, I removed the large fenderwell intake resonator, but left the inlet tube/boot on to help direct the air into the stock air box. I'm using a K&N panel filter with the stock setup. What I want to do is just get MORE air into the air box via a remote air hose. When I pulled my side turn signal lamp off, I was shocked at how little room there was for air to get by it and into the air box! I want to buy one of those shop vac hoses and clamp it onto the stock inlet boot, then run it down to one of the lower openings in the bumper cover. I also thought that it might me a good idea to fasten one of those vacuum attachments for cleaning the floor to the end of the hose to get more air directed into the hose. At the depot you can get 7' of flexible hose and one of those floor cleaner attachments all for under $20! My only concern after reading all the feedback is water getting into the hose.

What do you guys think? Will this work? The inside of the hose was smooth so it shouldn't constrict airflow. The diameter is 2.5" if that matters.
I used that very same piece of hose smile I no longer have the hose directly attached to the open ended cone filter, but I have it dumping the cooler air directly in front of the S&B Powerstack. I need to build an enclosure box to get it sealed off...

I have a piece of metal dryer vent tube lying around; I figure I'll probably stick it in there somewhere to just dump cold air up into the engine compartment and keep the whole under-hood environment a bit cooler. This wouldn't dump air directly at the filter because it would be on the other side of the heat shield -- it would just cool down the pipe and other stuff.

i did this with the silver dryer hose from the local Home Depot. no noticable gains but i think it helped a little with the heat soak i hear some contour owners complaining about.
just as an after thought it really sucked trying to get the hose to fit threw the fender well. hope this helps

Will I notice any gains with the stock setup (minus the large resonator)? I'm leaning toward the shop vac hose as it is more durable and black. Thanks for all the input, I really appreciate it!

I was also thinking about using this (see picture) at the end of hose to "collect" more air into the air box. What do you think? It's only $6 and I thought it would also make the setup look better. Let me know what you think.

One more thing, what's the best way to mount the hose to the opening in the front bumper? I don't want to put any holes in the cover, so if anyone has a better solution, please let me know. Thanks!

Isn't an engine basically a very powerful vacuum? I just want more cold air for not a lot of $$$.
