I removed my front left tire and fenderwell to get a nice look at the enormous plastic resonator. On my 97 there was one torx bolt (T30?) holding up the large resonator close to the driver's door hinge. Then it just came out. As far as the other part goes, I left it there so the intake box could get more direct airflow. There was a small resonator hanging down from the inlet tube and I left that there as well. Also, I filled the small hole (really a triangle shape) left by the removal of the large resonator with a piece of high density foam that I cut slightly larger than the opening to make for a tight fit. I guess you could also use duct tape!

The main question I have is whether it would be worth my time to add a ventilation hose from the stock inlet tube down to the opening in the front bumper. Here's what Home Depot has that might work with a little tinkering:
