I just had my zetec rebuilt due to a craked piston (and bad fuel injectors
). It runs better than when I first got the car two years ago. I have been told that sometimes engines don't run the same after they have been rebuilt though. My mechanic had a hell of a time getting the parts from ford (they kept sending the wrong parts). If you decide to get it rebuilt, make sure it's done by a good mechanic.
