Do you guys think that the stock crank and rods can take the burden of 12.5:1 compression or do I need to upgrade via Esslinger??

I'd check with the Focus guys to see what those cranks have been taking for punishment, but generally speaking, I'd shy away from anything over 11:1, maybe 11.5:1 on a stock crank...

[/b]Get Terry to rebuild it all, and let him do all the work!! I am! And yet, I have full confidence, and total ease of mind, that when I get it back, I can do whatever to it, and not worry, and be problem free for a very long time... dont know why, but I just get that feelin :p thanx again Terry, you are too good!

Ok, say I push for 11:1 compression, how do I go about attaining it?
I know that if I install longer rods I will increase the static compression which will lower the chances of detonation (which is a very good thing at 11:1) and lower the octane requirement. To my knowledge no one makes a longer than stock rod for the Zetec, am I right?
Then again, If I do go with the JE 12.5:1 pistons I shouldnt have to worry about CR because when I get the cylinder head honed, valve and CC work done it will lower the overall compression.

if you take some you may be able to get around 225 to 240hp by doing a 3 or 5 angle valve job on the seats and maybe port and poslish the head to the gasket. You may also get away a lower compression to make power. but also think where are you driving the car.
