Hey Everyone, I am looking for an airbox that will fit into a 1995 Contour with of coarse the Zetec. I had one of those cone filters on it and my mechanic says that there isn't enough air (it is one of those cheap ones made for hondas  ) Anyway, I need an airbox. Now I do not have a lot of money. So, if anyone has one they want to sell for real cheap. Contact me. Thanks!

Save your money and get a CTA intake.
But if you really want the stock intake I got one you can have, you just pay for shipping.
Do you just want the box or do you need everything else as well (accordian tubing, resonator chamber, etc)?

What???? Not enough air? That is wierd. The cone filter is an open-air element. The airbox, is closed, and has a smaller airhorn that funnels into the box. Think about it like this as well.

The car is not completely sealed from air coming into the engine bay. Therefore, it is possible that while moving, you could get air flowing from under and around the radiator, grill, tranny, etc.... So closed airbox, sealed to air coming from other areas except the airhorn in the side of the fender.....open element picks up from everywhere that air is and yes, even hot air from exhaust. So sometimes a heatshield is in order.

CTA intake, good idea....but guess what!!!!!???!!!
Open air element on the end.

Don't give up on the cone filter. I don't know who made yours though...I have an APC on my car and I have noticed an improvement with that filter than with the airbox....

CAWong, chime in anywhere here.

Sorry this is sooooo long but hope it helps
Rich

Rich, thanks for the info. I know! It only seems right. But that is what they told me. As long as K&N makes an airfilter for it I will be fine. But yeah I thought the same thing. But that is what they are telling me. And since the car is not fully in my name yet then i have no say in it and I have to get it done. So, if anyone has it, let me know. Thanks !

Because the CTA puts the cone filter above the wheelwell, pretty well separated from the engine, it's not difficult to put a heat shield around it so that it gets the majority of its air from the wheelwell like the stock airbox does.

mods so far: CTA intake with homemade heat shield, KVR drilled front rotors & carbon pads w/ 500° fluid
planned mods: exhaust (want to keep it quiet), e-ram (awaiting installation), diablo chip
involuntary mods: compression increased after head gasket failure

Does your new filter connect right up to the air meter? If so, then you shouldn't be having a problem. The only difference between that setup and the CTA is the stuff between the meter and the throttle body (it all goes away and is replaced with a pretty aluminum pipe). The filter fits right in. Why was your mech. looking at it? Was it running poorly? I don't understand. An airbox will allow even less air.
Maybe your meter was only saying that there wasn't enough. Did he check that?

So, I am still looking for an airbox

Smile kid, were all rooting for ya.
And Dad, the cone filter mod that was done, if he connected it right up to the MAF, is probably saving some $$ on gas bills. Be careful, I think this mechanic may be trying to take you guys for a ride. I have seen lots of info pointing to the fact that having this kind of filter on your car helps more than it hurts.

Who installed the filter? Do YOU remember having any loose wires? Do you physically see any loose wires????? Do you have any CEL's? Any pinging, stumbling, stalling, etc?

Who makes the filter? I am sorry for all the questions but I have a real problem with anyone working on my car but me. I hear all kinds of remarks from people with mechanics that they trust saying wacky stuff. So really guys, I am not too comfortable with this answer.

But hey, this isn't your car totally so hey, sure get the box back on there and put a K&N in.

And hey....ummm one more thing, until the mod you did is tested and proven don't throw the old stuff away. I still have my airbox just in case I sell the car  ....yeah right!

Did you maybe unplug the harness from your MAF?

Regardless, I would take the car to another mechanic for a second opinion.

And CTA...get one now...

This could be your problem...If it's a $20 p.o.s. from the rice section at pep-boys, you may be doing your car an injustice.

I don't know if any of you seen it but I posted a message a little while ago about putting on a K&N cone filter. Well boys, I did it and it isn't too bad of a deal.... I just removed the airbox on my 97 Mystique 2.0 and attached it right there. It works really good but its a little doggish off the start in town. I think its cause my car gets REALLY hot when I just go slow around town. Is there any way to fix this? And I notice my fan doesn't kick on till I am on the A in NORMAL on my temp guage. But other than that, on the highway it has improved gas and the sound is awsome. The only thing that I don't like is that if you notice on the Mercury Zetecs, right past the first air sensor, there is a huge black rectangular shaped box that comes off the intake towards the front of the vehicle. Now as far as I know it seems empty and there is a sensor in the bottom of the tube its connected to... What can I do with this, and do I need it? All of you should know what I mean if you have seen one. Now I look at all my friends Ztecs they have in their cougars and they don't have this peice on their intake. I am confused. I want to rip it off but I need some advise.... All will be appreciated.
