After owning my car for a few years,i'll finally get a chance to fix it up. I have a 1998 Mercury Mystique GS. I'm graduating this year and for a gift, i've asked to get a complete make-over to my car. I think this would be better and a lot cheaper than getting a new car. Anyway, I was wondering if you guys here can help me out. I have up to about a $3,000 limit, so no superchargers! But anything else would be appreciated.(intake,exhaust,headers,etc.) Thanks.

If it were mine and I had the money to blow. Considering you posted this in here instead of a forum like wheels/tires/asthetic/etc, I am assuming you want it to be a little quicker. I would look for an SVT exhaust system and slap that under the car. An intake would be a good idea as well. I know that D Davis is going to have one out real soon. There are also a few other suppliers whose names I forget right now. Faster you could go with a underdrive pulley (they have them pretty cheap on Ebay), perhaps even an intake cam. After all those are done, get yourself a chip and have them burn it so it will make use of all your new parts! If you have some money left over (you probably will) you could have Chris Hightower paint your headlamps, lower it a little and throw on a nice set of wheels and tires. Just my .02¢

you have 18 more posts than this guy and you are telling him to use search.........sheesh.......please....... anyways, hey biggie and welcome to the ceg.....so you got some money to spend huh......well there are obviously many different things you can do, to each their own. what do you like? myself, i am more worried about looks than go fast stuff.....so there are svt side skirts, and a rear bumper.......trust me, doesnt look too shabby with a stock front bumper! check out ctamotorsports.com for a pretty nice intake, best available right now.....or hold out and stash some cash and get d davis' new cold air intake (details can be found in the zetec forum) you can shop around for a used svt exhaust, i understand these sound pretty sweet on a zetec.....i built a custom exhuast using magnaflow components.......def not a bad idea.....these are just some starters for ya......there are a world of things that can be done...so if you got any further questions, just holla!

thanks exdelayed, my car is a handed down family car, and i want to turn it into a sporty teenager car. i'm not really into racing, but occasionally i go out to the track and surprise stock hondas. they usually just say what kind of car is that, and talk a lot of trash. Thats why i want to make it look, sound, and actually be somewhat sporty. I know i can't get much out of it, but i want to get as much as i can. i just purchased a new engine from the dealer. i feel they ripped me off though. my car was shaking horribly and the check engine light stayed on. but know that i have a new one i want to take care of,especially since it's all mine now.

jeeze...just a little hazing...jeeze..
sorry to have offended anyone...
what to spend your money on...well that depends on what you have in mind for the car. speed.. looks... sound.... or a combo... just depends on what your goals are...

oh I forgot... the best thing you could do is sit down with the amount of money you want to spend and map out a budget. that way you know exactly how much and what on you're spending the $$$ on. don't forget hidden costs like installation. once again not to offend anyone again. since you stated that you don't know what the parts are and what they do, I assume you won't be doing the installation yourself. find yourself a good honest shop and have them do the work. or get one of the guys on here to lend you a hand. oh and for future references... the number of posts you have don't mean anything but you've just started on this site. not with the sport or engines. later MP

My advice is if you have 3k to play with, spend it all on something big. You can do the nickel and dime stuff later, a little at a time. Look at cams or a head or something. It's not too often you get to dump a big load of dough into a car. You can save up $400 for an exhaust and $150 for an intake. It's pretty damn hard to save 3 large. Spend it wisely however. And welcome to the CEG.
