K, back to the question..... You definitely have a chance, I haved totally murdered many a del sol vtecs with my zetec!!! was a little tricky, cause at higher rpms that vtec can start to sing, but by the time ive shifted and started pullin again, it didnt really matter, and like it was stated before,... you will get such a good head start that he will be trying to play catch up!!

I definitely think that a Del Sol vtec would beat you. Basically, a car that weighs 400-600lbs less than you with a Civic SI engine. The Civic SI ran 1/4 miles in 15.5-16.0 seconds I believe. The Del Sol is lighter so it should be a little bit faster than that. The fastest Zetec tour I have seen ran a 16.5. If it is not a vtec then you may have a closer race, but he still has a weight advantage. Of course, these are all numbers games, and either of you could get a better/worse launch, etc
EDIT: I am talking about the DOHC vtec that is in the Civic SI. I believe (infurym may know) that there is a SOHC vtec that was in the Del Sol SI I believe.

All but the first year of production of the Del Sol there was a vtec. the si is a single cam the del sol vtec is the quick one 160hp same as the civic si.
