Thanks Lee,
I figured that as soon as I got everything back together. Will have to go and pull the whole dash bezel apart again. Any info on a wiring diagram to tell me which wires control the CEL and the O/D off lights? I want to cut those and solder them back together so they work properly with the new cluster. Thanks again!
On the old cluster there are dummy lights that say "Sport" and one that looks like a shock or something like that. Any clue as to what those would be used for? Thanks!

Thanks! mine is the same thing but I don't have overdrive... I think those are lights used on the mondeo... but who knows... really anyone???? some of the mondeo owners could tell us I hope...

Any help will be very appreciated. Hi. Just joined the forums, so sorry for the delayed response. According to the '98 wiring diagrams I have, both CEL and O/D off lights come from BK/OG wires. The CEL wire is 0.5sq.mm, while the OD off wire is 0.35sq.mm... so presumably the thin BK/OG is OD off while the thicker is CEL. Swap these and you should be in good shape. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I already attempted to install the new cluster and the damn thing started smoking as soon as I connected the harness to it. A bunch of circuits on the board opened and now all I have is a whole bunch of extra cluster bulbs. A hard lesson learned, but one that I will never try again. I'm pretty sure that there was a problem to begin with on the speedo board, but had no way of knowing that because I bought it on Ebay. The guy didn't tell me that the board had open circuits on it and now he won't give me my $$$ back. Sorry to ramble on, I just needed to vent  . Thanks again!

there had to be something wrong with the board cause I have had in my 96 the original, one out of a 98.5 SVT, 98SE, 2000 SVT and the 97 mystique 4 banger that I currently have and had no problems with them smoking the SVT ones everything worked but the speedo...

question question if i find a 1996 atx contour wiht a tach will it work perfectly in my car or does it matter if it is a v6 or not im trying to match model years and transmissions in hopes of not screwing anything up.

If the cluster is from a V6 it will function but the tach probably won't read at the proper RPM's. There is a resistor and diode on the back that(I think)needs to be swapped out to a different value for the tach to read the signal right. Transmission doesn't seem to matter from what I've gathered and even the year is variable. My cluster is from a 99 Mystique ATX...I got a 96 Mystique cluster for a guy in OK with a 96 or 97 with manual, so far its working good.

Interesting, thanks. I think it was baco99 that got a cluster some time ago...something about the tach didn't work right. I think he said it was from a V6. I could be wrong though.
