My friend with a 1996 cougar xr7 (v8) never stops talking smack on my tour. I figure i dont have a chance being stock but what would i need to beat him. Also does anyone know the site where they list the real 0-60, 1/4 miles times for cars. It was posted once but i forget where it was.

It sounds like he may be reading the GVWR off of the door. That still seems high though.

He is blowing so much sh*t up your azz! That cougar has nothing on your tour. First of all you weigh a lot less and do you have a 5spd? Cause if you do, then he is toast. NO mods? The Power to weight ratio seems wrong. Plus those V8s are tuned down a little from the Stangs. I say take him to the track and blow his doors off! Anyone disagree with me? Also, never race for money!

I'd say the Cougar would whoop on you in a drag race. It doesn't have much horsepower, but still has the cubes to give it decent torque.
If you had a 5-speed you might have a better chance. I would think you'd need some type of power adder like NOS or Turbo/blower to beat him, or quite a few mods to your Nat Aspirated Zetec to hang with him.
I can guarantee hes not running any 5.5-6 second 60 times. He'd be in the low 14's with that I believe.
96 Contour GL. 2.0L, MTX. Just purchased at 100,000 miles. Runs like it has 1,000 miles. Bone stock, but hopefully not for long... 70 Mustang Sportsroof 351W with Built AOD and '01 Mustang GT wheels.

hmmm my uncle has a 97 T-Bird with the 4.6 and he was running mid 15's in the 1/4 with the only mod being a 2 1/2" cat-back exhaust. So I believe this guys numbers were pulled from thin air. He would be lucky to get low 16's in the 1/4 and maybe mid to high 7 sec 0-60 times. It's still faster than a Zetec tour, but it would be a fun race, watching a big V8 powered XR7 barely beating a 4 banger in the 1/4... Just my thoughts
