Unfortunately for Fords that is normal. Its called Throttle Hang and it is meant to reduce emissions by holding the engine speed. You can fix it (check the how-to section) but it seems like the majority of people just live with it. Other car makers do it different ways, electronics, etc;. I don't like it and no one really does.
