Hey gang,
I have this burning desire to install a kill switch that would let me disable the A/C compressor when in defrost mode. Do any of you electrical Contour gurus have an idea what wire to splice such a switch in?? Thanks!

To my knowledge, all HVAC defrosts use the compressor.
Why do you feel this compelling desire to begin with? If it is that serious, I can make a phone call and figure it our for you.

I just hate how bothersome that A/C compressor is under part-throttle driving. And I cannot deal with having my heat coming from the panel vents, it dries my throat to death. I have ALWAYS run all my cars on the defrost/feet setting during winter, but I cannottake this compressor any more! It would be *SO* appreciated if you could identify which wire leading to what I need to put my switch in!! ...pretty please!

When you push the gas pedal all the way down to the floor, the A/C compressor turns off. I have been wanting to get a Mondeo HVAC switch that has that. It's a push on/push off for the compressor. Same stuff otherwise. That way you can have recirculating air without getting all cold and stuff.

Now THAT's what I'm looking for. Control over recirculation & a/c operation. Why did Ford decide that I would NEVER want to run the a/c ONLY on my feet?? ...Oh and driving at WOT just doesn't seem that convenient on main strip here

...Oh and driving at WOT just doesn't seem that convenient on main strip here I'm with you. Some cars offer a separate switch for A/C compressor, regardless of HVAC mode. But, they did it to save money. One less switch.

Easy way to trace would be to cut one wire going to the compressor and splice in your switch from there to the dash. Bill D.

True, I had thought of that too, but was kinda hoping I could find something that wouldn't require fishing wires out the firewall and routing them to the compressor... Tartan1749: Maybe there's something near the PCM or just behind the HVAC panel?? Don't rush it, but if you could call your source it would be very appreciated! Here's my email if somebody ever finds a clever solution: silversvt@hotmail.com

This is already one of my summer projects. I'll be putting in my push button that activates the AC (on/off) in any vent position. I may do another How-To if I get the chance.

Pascal, I'm going to look into this switch idea. I still think that tripping the 'low pressure' sensor is the best bet. I can't remember exactly where that sensor is. When I find it, I'll throw some directions your way.
