LMAO!!

Maybe we can have an ULTIMATE pre98 category AND a 98+ category...so we can both have the best. wink Guess I better get to work!!

NOW...I need more people to go to that thread...looks like there are only 7 people in the entire CEG that got a Contour with rear drums. Hmmmm, seems a little un-balanced. laugh

We also need an ultimate ATX category, because that's the only one I have any chance in.

And I ain't even considering a rear disc kit. All I want out of my brake mods is to avoid fading on mountain descents, and I've probably got that pretty well covered as soon as I get the fluid changed.

96 GL Zetec ATX, white with pinstripe, nickname " Sam Smooth "
mods so far: CTA intake with homemade heat shield, KVR drilled front rotors & carbon pads w/ 500° fluid
planned mods: exhaust (want to keep it quiet), e-ram (awaiting installation), diablo chip
involuntary mods: compression increased after head gasket failure

I can't believe that this is probably going to die frown What is probably our only chance at having a profesionally designed performance rear brake setup...going down the crapper due to LACK OF SUPPORT!!

Mike said he was going to ask again about it's possiblity, but you're absolutely right. This is going to die regardless...lack of support.

Maybe next time. frown

Ah, common people mad , don't you guys want our cars to be put on the map for mods? Show a bit of support, it won't cost you a red cent to just reply to the post and say "I'm interested". End of discussion, short and simple. Why else did you guys join CEG? To talk with others who think that our cars have much trunk space? Maybe because you can fit all of those groceries in the back seat and still have more room to go shopping at the local Target? Common guys, even if you don't have rear drums and was blessed with 4WD brakes, just reply to the post and help us out will ya? I promise it wont hurt. And if it does, may SQPlus get bit by a thousand sick cats with no homes laugh .

Nis- That is worse than not responding at all. Don't post if you aren't willing to commit money to it- its not fair to the prospective supplier.

I'm not going to be the typical pansy who replies to a post saying I'm interested knowing that I wouldn't commit the money to it...

Only 20% of the braking happens in the back. Why not spend the money on better rear shoes and a nice front setup where 80% of the braking is happening.

Also (just because I haven't pulled out my flame suit in a while), I believe cross-drilled and/ or slotted rotors are am aesthetic gimmick.

Yeah, I guess thats true, but I know that there are a lot of us out there who have rear drums and wish they could have rear disc instead. Still think there could be more people that can reply to the post though. Take Terry Haines project as an example. How many poeple have been showing interest in it, but will not be able to afford a couple of grand when it is ready? I'm just saying, if you think it's something you may like to see in the future, then show some interest.

Nis,

That's not nice...I'm allergic to cats. wink
------------

Last I saw from Exdelayed he actually felt a difference in the way the car braked(sp?)after he converted to rear disc. If I can feel it and it might help balance the car then I'm alllll for it. Something else to consider is the ease of changing pads versus drums...drums suck, pads don't. I haven't been able to find any performance shoes for our car because they typically aren't made...if I can have pads on the rear it opens up another section of performance that I don't believe I have now. It would be nice to run a good pad in the rear that is(maybe) a step better than my fronts. I would think that will help balance the braking in these cars.

Plus it'll look PHAT!

As for cross-drilled and slotted rotors...from what I've read cross-drilled are okay for everyday use but are prone to cracking and are NOT okay for track use. Slotted has benefits and is also better off as a track 'option'...but overall the best thing for improved braking(re:rotors) is a bigger rotor to improve heat transfer.

True but disc are more likely to warp than drums. I don't really want to argue that drums are superior because they are not, just being a PITA
