i have a problem i recently took my engine from my 95 Contour which was in a bad crash (let her rest in peace) and i transfered it to a 96 Mystique, so far the only thing i know is that the coolant fan won't shut off at all and i was wondering if anyone knows how to fix it and whats wrong. Its at a Ford Dealer and they want 70 bucks to find out the damn problem is (****in pricks) and i don't have any money. So any help would be useful

My first assumption would be that the Engine Temp Sensor isn't plugged in. If it is it might be bad, but I believe that would throw a CEL. There are two Temp Sensors one is for the Guage and the ther is for the Radiator Cooling Fans.

3 sensors for the cooling system, one for gage, one for EEC, one for fan.The fan sender is in the rad end tank, pull the plug and it should stop = bad sensor, pull the plug and it still keeps going= shorted wiring between feeds to sensor or relay.....

TerryHaines:
I believe its the dropping resistor at the rad.
As Lee points out there is one temp sensor for fan/engine control and another for gauge.

The dropping resistor is only on the single fans giving it a 2 speed function....

That would seem to confirm what Terry and I were saying. I hope it's fixed for you.

Why would the sensor be bad lee? Considering that it is a new sensor, would the mechanic be trying to hide a potential problem by doing this?? What could that problem be?

Ahh...I was assuming that you had a new one put on to fix the problem. My bad. If one has been installed it "may" have been bad out of the box. I would get another one and see.

Also Terry's suggestion about the wiring is a good one. It might be that a harness was nicked on the installation of the Engine.

It also might be if the car was in a bad accident that the Water pump cracked and later shattered as a result. You temp guage may not be correctly functioning to show the overheating. Let the car run and idle. Partially unscrew the coolant resivior to see if alot pressure bleeds off. DO NOT UNSCREW IT ALL THE WAY!!!

If there is alot of pressure your Water pump should be fine.
