DD,
What is the difference between yours and the CTA and/or BAT systems? I'm assuming you have a CTA style pipe and fit a BAT style cold air hose to it. I'm pretty sure I could buy the piece from BAT to fit onto my CTA and run a hose down to colder air. Can I buy just that piece from you or am I misunderstanding your concept? I just put the CTA on and wouldn't hate improving it at all, not to mention making it a little quieter (it's still my wife's car). If it's not possible, maybe a future idea for us with aftermarket air parts already. smile
It's all about the marketing. wink

andenthal: I guess the best way to describe it is this - imagine your CTA pipe, but extended all the way into the fenderwell and forward/down some. Attach a 5" reverse cone and there's the premise wink

There is no hose running from the filter on. The filter is at the end of a very well made piece of mandrel-bent pipe.

So can I add it to my CTA? Maybe you should just send me the "extension" part of the pipe from the MAF to the filter and I could try it out, you know, like a test car. laugh

Actually, the last I knew he was going to try and exclude the MAF element and attach the sensor directly to the pipe (ala AEM). I don't know what the progress is on that, but I'll see what I can find out smile

I really need to sit down and answer as much as I can here.

Regarding the IAT differences. I wasn't aware of a difference in mount type/size. We'll have to look further into it, but I'm certain we can set each pipe up properly upon order. I'll mention it to Keith. (Damn I wish we had a pre-98 in our group here!).

Cost: Well, I don't even know what the exact cost will be. I could guess, but that would be bad. Let's put it this way, you get what you pay for. The idea is that this will be the highest-quality intake available for us. It will also be very limited-production which will affect cost some.

Now to address each of you w/ questions as much as I can:

Colter: I already answered your question - see above laugh

Escort1991: I know you need info. I want to give you the info, but I can't right now.

Jim Richards: I don't know how colorful he's planning on making it.

SQPlus: I doubt tbunder will want one, but he's welcome to purchase one :p

DelusionalMind: I don't have hard numbers on 0-60 times. I can, however, tell you that a 3rd gear run before the intake took 12.5 seconds (2500 rpm launch) to reach the rev limiter and after the intake it took 11.0 seconds. In other words, I made it through 3rd gear 1.5 seconds quicker after the pipe was installed. A 3rd gear run from 2500 to limiter is roughly 32mph - 82 mph. Not exactly what you wanted, but something to analyze.

DelusionalMind and Jim Richards: Thanks for the compliments. Too bad I had to take it to the shop this morning for some work frown

ButtonPuncher: The opening is in the vicinity of the fog lamp. This isn't something I personally worried about being in Arizona, but I can see your concern. I have an idea I'll propose to Keith when he calls me back today. If it works it will be a very nice bonus.

Andenthal: My idea for a solution to your concern is very similar to ButtonPuncher's. Let me get back to you.

IAT discussion peeps: laugh Thanks for all the input. Is there anything else I should know?

Go to this thread and scroll down until you see a picture... that should give you a good idea of the dimensions of a pre-98 IAT screw threads. If you need to test it more accurately, you could just buy a loose one from Ford... though that won't answer wire harness questions.

CTA solved the pre-98 IAT problem by just drilling out a larger hole for it to screw into. This is not ideal, though, because (a) the screw body sticks into the airstream whereas in the stock intake only the ceramic tip sticks in, (b) the threading you get is not going to be good for more than one or two unscrew-and-screw-back-in cycles (when I put mine back on I'm going to use some thread compound to mitigate this as much as possible), and (c) the threads don't go flush up against the base, so you have to pick a random point to stop turning in the middle of the thread, and make sure to get the ceramic tip aligned crosswise to the airflow... the stock intake is much more foolproof because it had a properly made threaded hole which might be kind of hard to match.

I don't know what the ideal fitting might be for the second generation sensor... maybe you can just drill a smaller hole, or maybe some plastic bit jammed into the larger hole would be good.

If not enough air is getting into the wheelwell, you can either remove the flap on the fiberboard under panel -- the hinged cover that goes over the tow hook -- (mine fell off by itself), or if you don't have fog lights you can replace the fake grille pieces with real grille. The filter sits about a foot above it so it shouldn't let much water or anything into it, but you might want some fine mesh to keep out leaves and bugs.

Yo Darrel, haven't heard from you in a while. This has probably been specified somewhere already, but I am too lazy to search, will a filter be supplied as part of this kit or do you have to buy your own?
