Hi everybody, I am the owner of a 95' gl auto. Lately the car has been feeling extremely sluggish, the acceleration is horrible and the idle seems to be off. Anyway seeing the car has 140k on it I am seeking everyones opinion on which maintenance I should do. First off is there a way to clean out the intake and exhaust manifolds and would looking at the cams for scorring or pitting be productive confused confused ? I've already replaced the o2 sensor, fuel filter, oil filter, all mounts, thermostat, pcv valve, new plugs and wires, and speed sensor. My mods include removing the intake and exhaust resonator, cta intake, and magnaflow exhaust. Here is what i'm planning...new catalytic converter, timing belt(still original eek eek ), cleaning whole fuel rail, cleaning throttle body and maf. Anything I am missing for an extreme maintenace project? Thanks

With 140k, I'd just replace the MAF. Also, don't forget the EGR.

Clean the MAF and TB, like you suggested, don't replace the MAF just yet. They are made to last, they don't really wear out. Use some alcohol and CAREFULLY clean the sensing element inside the center post of the MAF. Also check/clean the electrical connections around the engine compartment. Look for cracked/broken/missing harnesses and repair/clean/replace as needed.

Did you replace both O2 sensors or just the upstream? May want to replace the downstream sensor also. A tranny flush would be a very good idea, along with the brake fluid. Check the coolant also, I would imagine its been changed by now but check it to be sure.

oh, and.......

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD...CHANGE THE TIMING BELT!!!
wink

I am getting beat by EVERY rice burner on the road and its driving me nuts. I would really like to know if there is a way to clean the intake manifold. I am beginning to feel this car does not have nearly enough power to beat the common stock honda. I also ran a compression test and it came out nearly perfect. Somebody please convinve me to keep this car as I am looking at a 97' firebird. Thank you all

You could remove the intake manifold and clean it. Don't forget that those Hondas you're racing are lighter than your car is. That plays a big part. Make sure everything is tuned up right and get a new intake(pre throttle body)and open the exhaust a little.

he is definately right about the wieght issue. My 91'civic sedan is only listed at around 2200lbs.your car weights IIRC at least 3000lbs.the newer civics weight up to 2700lbs,and the highest hp short of the SI is only a weak 127.
