Sorry, this has been discussed alot in the 2.3 community. The only thing similar between this engine and the "classic" 2.3 i-4 is the displacement...just like the new 5.0 compared to the "classic" 5.0...

Turboing this will be just as custom as a zetec...
(unless ford decides to give us a factory turbo at some point laugh )

I'm not sure what tranny. The only tranny reference I have seen is "G5M", which I'm guessing is a Mazda truck tranny(since the engine is in the ranger)

The main messageboard for 2.3's is at
http://www.turboford.org

Also, alot of talk about it in the TurboFord yahoogroup... groups.yahoo.com/turbo/

Mazda G5M is the old 5-speed MTX used in the Protege, 323, EGT and the ZX2. Some of the ZX2ers, especially, those with the S/R model report problems with the G5M.

I have a ZX2 S/R with ~129-131 HP at the front wheels and aiming for 145+ HP. I have been very careful so far not to hurt the tranny.

I hope the duratec HE 2.3 is available to bolt up to the MT75 or better the Getrag 6-speed in the SVT Focus.

I have been wondering if this engine will "easily" bolt into a Tour or any Zetecer for that matter. Even though it don't seem like much of an improvement with only a .3L increase in displacement just remember going .5L up from a 2.5L to a 3.0L isn't that much different. Every little bit helps! laugh

Hmmm, then again if it was easy then they probably would have put the 2.3L into the Escape instead of the 2.0L. Hmmm. Then again if it was easy how much fun would that be?

the 5 valve would only be if it had a stock turbo or s/c.like on VW engines, they have an extra intake valve.either that or they were going for major fuel efficiency
