Yes the upper intake is that big black plastic lump on the back of the egine: all plastic and I don't know if it can be extrude-honed: good possibility. There is also a metal spacer between the head and UIM that the fuel injectors plug into, Ford calls it a Lower int. manifold, but its nothing like the duratec setup w/ thier butterflys and other ridiculous crap. SQ, where are you planning on getting the ZX2 intake from? I don't know if the Contour TB is a straight bolt on to that intake. If you get it its a good time to have it portmatch to the LIM.

I believe the metal intake for the ZX2 ZX3 has been drilled for an oversized tb possibly of Mustang origin.

The guys over at the focus forum (USA) have had problems getting a TB for it, yet I'm sure they didn't know it was for a mustang?

Doesn't Dunnell have some sort of intake manifold? I was looking at something the other day there. It was a kit for something, but I think I saw something with an intake man. in the pic. I don't know if that would work or not because I'm not real sure what car they actually specialize in or if it's just the Zetek engine.

Dunnel does Zetec only, but the kit you are refering to would require some pretty heavy modding and the 1800 pounds sterling(about $2700) is alittle more than most would like to spend.

The Dunnell manifold is for use with Throttle Bodies, so probably won't be any use to you unless you also bought the throttle bodies, management system etc etc.

The kit normally runs in at £1800 for the Alpha TB kit, its less for the carb kit I believe.

Dunnells kit would come in for, around about £650 for the carb version and that gives 165BHP.

OhSigmaChi,
I really want a newer, larger TB. I guess that optimizing my current TB will hold me over until something else comes through.

Has anyone else done a catco converson to their zetec? How would this be done? Gut current cat and mount hi-flow cat where the resonator is? Can the cat be mounted past the ozygen sensors? Will the exhaust gasses cool too much for the new cat to be effective?

Hmmm...questions, questions. smile

The Catco will go where the stock cat goes, the shop that does the install wil have to do a little work w/ the mount to the exhaust manifld and reroute the EGR tubing where it meets the Cat, but it is pretty straight forward stuff. Also I don't remember the exact figure, but there is a mileage standard for how many miles a car must have before the Cat can be replaced, I think its 60K, buy not sure.

Does the ZX2 have VCT on the exhaust valves?
