Sorry for the general question, but I have to ask. I just sold my 99 SVT and got a 95 GL MTX. Does its motor 2.0L I-4 have any parts interchangeability with the Focus or ZX2 zetec motor? Specifically aftermarket intakes, etc. In other words, is the motor the same basic layout or not really? Thanks.

The Motor had changes to it from the 95 to 99 the most noticable one was the change from EGR system to VCT and OBD-1 to OBD-2. I believe that the Focus uses a larger throttle body, and a different exhaust setup. Those two I don't believe are interchangable. Also there are plenty of other parts availible specificly for the Contour like the CTA Intake.

the parts are sometimes interchangable... cams and cam gears are. the throttle body on the focus is a different size and the ATX/MTX focus uses two different ones. underdrive pulleys are interchangable but belt size is different from car to car... on my 96 I used a 720 and on locozetecse's that size was way too small, and I am not sure what size we ended up with. intake kits won't work from the focus without modding them. superchip/diablochips will work with the right computer code. that's all I can think of right now...

Last I checked anyway. When you say 98-01 Zetec I assume you're including the Escort? I thought the Focii got VCT when they were introduced.

kind of... I have seen a few 98 and 99 tours without VCT on them.

Focus SVT has VCT on both cams, as per Motor Trend And Automoblie Magazines.

What I had read was that VCT being added to the intake cam was another 'first' for Ford and/or SVT with the production of the FSVT. Along with a few other things.

FWIW, my brothers ZX2 has VCT. Looking at his intake compared to my `96. It appears that the TB sits higher and has its top facing forwards a couple of degrees. I haven't had a chance to look at much more, he has only had it a couple of days.
