i was just reading the new summit sport compact catalog and took note of "Helix Power Tower" throttle body spacers. There is a listing for the "Ford Focus 2.0L ZETEC", and i figure it'll most likely fit the contour too. Here is the description:

"The Helix Power Tower throttle body spacer increases the velocity of the air and fuel into yourengine. At the same time, its spiral flow design creates an air flow vortex that improves fuel atomization and increases combustions. The result: more horsepower."

to me, this sounds like the typical bull**** ad, but then again, summit is a pretty respectable catalog. any opinions/experience?

I would say it won't cause the throttle body in the focus sites differently that it does in the contour. but you never know unless someone has tried.

the throttle body in the focus/contour are the exact same size/thing though, so it should work, but since ours sits vertically, maybe there would be clearance issues, i don't know. i think the space is about an inch tall, or maybe an inch and a quarter. it runs $90 by the way. i was trying to do some more research, apparently they used to use a similar thing with carbeurated engines. it gets you better gas mileage, and more horsepower apparently by the better atomization of fuel.

the throttle body is not the same. all the larger throttle body's for the focus will not work on the contour. so I will say this will not work either. and ford lists a different part number for the focus throttle body than they do for our car.

I forgot to all the focus has a larger throttle body stock then the contour does. atleast my 96 is smaller than my sisters focus ZX3 by about a quarter of an inch.

Different intake runners will cause different effects to an engine. If anyone here can remember the old Chrysler long rams of the `60s. They sat the carbs out over the wheelwells. The theory was that they increased the torque because of the runner length. They also had a fuel puddling issue.

Adding this spacer under the TB would, in theory, increase the length of the intake runners on our cars.

I am doubtful though. Kind of like that one where they put a chopped up pop can in the intake claiming that it will cause your incoming air to form a cyclone. What happenes when that cyclone hits a half open throttle body?!?!
