for my tune-up this weekend-
Motorcraft platinum plugs
Motorcraft or "ford motorsport" 9mm wires
Accel super coil

around $110 according to prices ive found on the 'net.

now, where do i find the accel coil. i assume the ford parts are available at any larger ford dealer? or are the motorsport wires not usually kept in stock?

The FMS wires are probably at a dealership somewhere near you. You may have to call around a bit to get them though...

If you can't find them locally, Bill Jenkins can get them for you.

Bill

t- let me know where you find the accel coil. I am probably heading in that direction soon and want to start comparing prices...

Bill Jenkin's # is 1-800-282-2290, he gives us great deals on Ford parts. I got the wires from Bill and they were 39.95 shipped to me. Get the Double platinum plugs they are alittle but better. I think they listed for 8 something a piece but I got them cheaper because I used to at a Ford dealership.

Some people run the Bosch +4 plugs, I have heard good and bad about them.

And what good do you expect the Accel coil to do?

The fuel either ignites or it doesn't. Making the spark sparkier is not going to change anything. Same air, same fuel, same combustion. Double plugs like a Nissan pickup might make some difference, but probably only in emissions.

Plenty have tried the Accel coil, and on the positive side nobody has yet been able to show any objective benefit, and on the negative side many have experienced failures and had to replace it.

I have one and I noticed a considerable ammt of increased fuel efficiency, Let me clarify, I lost some fuel efficiency w/ a rising rate FPR, I gaind it back w/ the accel over the stock coil pack.

I am on my second coil pack, and I can undoubtedly say, the reason for the coils failure was the crappy magnacore wires I had on it. Those wires have very poorly made connectors where they plug into the coil pack(mine would barely stay on the coil pack) and they let in all sorts of debris and miosture which led to the corrosion of the coil terminals and ultimately the failure of the Coil itself.

well, to be honest i was just figuring it would need replaced as well. is this something that HAS to be replaced at 100K miles? or does it wear out? i bought my motorcraft platinum plugs today for $4.85 a piece. i checked on the price of a motorcraft coil, it was like $135. the accel is only $60. if indeed this part needs replaced the accel is the obvious choice to me. if it doesn't need replaced, why bother. should i even buy the motorsport wires, or will any other good sets do? but i do think i need new wires if i put in new plugs. any alternatives to the 9mm motorsport wires? what will the motorsport improve the car in doing? performance? mpg? smoothness? advice needed please. thx

The FMS wires were only slightly more expensive than the stock ones so I figured what the hey...

The coil pack does age over time but to what degree the spark is effected, I'm not sure.

Well I have had the coil pack for a year now and no ill effects. I have the Accel wires too and they clip on the coil. No corrosion or anything else. confused
