How far can we go on the original timing belt? The Mercury manual tells me to do everything under the sun at the apropriate intervals, but mentions nothing about a timing belt. However the Haynes Manual tells me to replace it at 60,000. My mystique is at 60,000 but the timing belt shows no signs of wear. How far have you all gone on your original belts? Can I damage anything if I just drive my mystique untill it breaks?

I wasn't trying to be an A$$ at all, but there are several very good threads already on this forum that would answer this persons questions, quickly and painlessly, oh and by the way even Ford upped the change interval to 80K mi and quite a few people are beyond that.

I'm beyond the 60K mark, and closing on the 80K mark fast! But I don't plan on changing my belt until 100K. That seems like an even figure to do it.

I changed my belt @ 75k? It looked new when I took it out and I had the cold start slap problem. It?s a gamble over 60k, but I ain?t changing that sucka again until 150k!

Yes I know they upped it but last time this was talked about most people were says it was so stupid to of not of done it with people who were at 80 or 100k.

I'm at almost 77K miles and recently removed the timing/cam cover and the belt still looks very good. I can probably get the part numbers off it actually. I'm planing to change it soon though, looking at the condition it looks like it could go a good amount more before I had any problems.
