You guys think the gas could be my problem ???
That's ironic... I only use the 93 gas because I was trying to avoid pinging....
I don't know what to do...
Hey JPet, it gets loud if I want to... u know.. If I really force it it gets loud... but I never do that... because it's dangerous...

WEll, if it was pinging and knocking before you went to 93, then more than likely it's not the gas, but if it started after you went to 93 octane, then that'd be my guess. If it's makeing wierd noises, don't force it! I don't want to see a "my zetec blew up" post

and on the pinging.... I would think it is the gas mine seems to do that with 93 oct. no problems with 91 or 89 though run your tank almost dry and fill up with 87 or 89 and see if the problem is still there or try 91.

My 96'Zetec has a similar problem. I read somewhere on a previous post that it only pings when the engine first starts out because the oil hasn't had a chance to do its thing yet(i forgot what the person refered to it as). It isn't a problem as long as you change your oil on its due date.When mine pings, it goes away within 2 minutes of easy driving.

I take it that there are no codes being thrown... like for a bad knock sensor?A higher octane fuel gives a more even burn. I use a contour zetec with stock management on the 93 octane w/o detonation or preignition. I'd pull the temp gauge sender, and test it to see if it's reading low. Make sure the coolant temps aren't actually too high. I'd recheck static and ign timing also.

I don't think its pinging. What does it sound like when it does ping?
