Cosworth 2.0 can be AWD with a north-south engine or as in 'Profile' (dispite the fact it was a V6) transverse mounted.A Cosworth will mate to a Zetec MTX75 from a Zetec.Ball park cost of an 'un-dressed' 2.0 'genuine' Cosworth 2.0 T/C motor will run you $8-10,000...IF you can get one....I can order if you wish....TH

That is the engine...what about the AWD system? What is that out of, or is it Cossie specific?

I know the Contour is the Tempo's replacement but does anyone know how much of the chasis and so forth changed between the two?

I used to have a Tempo, no comparison with a contour. The Focus was announced as a replacement for the Contour. I've driven one,and it isn't.

IMHO, Ford screwed up by dropping the contique line. I've had a Cortina, Merc Capri, Tempo, Contour and a Taurus. The next vehicle in my driveway will NOT sport the blue oval.

eek Ok I know about the engine now but still what about the AWD? I think instead of buying a new car I will take out a $20,000-$25,000 loan and build me a "Cosworth" Contour. laugh Well maybe not but it would be nice. I was just wondering about the tempo thing becuase I've seen people adapt that AWD system to Escorts before.

Baco, you are making the same mistake the guys who think you can "bolt-up" the Focus SVT 6-speed to the contour zetec, for one I think it is highly improbable the Escapes trsanny will fit inside the contique, but even a greater consern is the casting of the engine to specifically match up w/ a certain tranny. Just to break it down:
**Contour Zetec: Engine cast for Contour Zetec specific MTX-75 bellhousing or ATX
**Focus SVT Zetec: Engine cast for B/W 6-speed bellhousing
**Escape Zetec: **Probably** Cast for "Control-Trac" 5 Speed

ok, so we'd have to fabricate a custom bell housing. what's that $1000?

worth it for AWD. the option on Audi's and beemers is in that price range anyways.

just a thought. also, wasn't the escape based loosely on the contour's platform? i don't think it is body-on-frame construction like the explorer, but closer to the way ours are built. if this is the case, there may be several similarities between the cars when you look underneath. you'd probably have to make the "transmission tunnel" on the contour taller. if you can fit a 3.0 engine in there, there might just be room for AWD if you move things around a bit.
