Oh okay, I guess that does make sense. Since CF is like fiberglass...it has to be laid on to a pre-existing shape, for the most part, in order for it to work. I didn't think about that. So I'll have to stick with the stock shape then...for now. wink How much weight reduction are we talking about here? 15-20 pounds? I'm not sure how much the stock hood weighs but they're pretty heavy.

The final finish on this stuff we'll be pretty heavy duty right? Its made so you can run around without any extra coatings or paint or anything right? Would if develope problems if a bra was used on a CF hood? Being a different finish than paint would it scratch or discolor easier?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm trying to think of what anyone could possibly want to know about these. You understand. laugh

no probs on the info - CF hoods sold for the street for the most part are fiberglass hoods... their skeletal structure and most of the skin layers are fiberglass - only 1 or 2 are CF.

If this were a true CF hood, the cost would be 2-3 times as much, and although impact resistance would be much greater with a CF hood, so would the chances of unravelling along edges and corners. Real CF doesn't have as much of a gloss finish as the composites do either.

The weight reduction typically is over 60%. For example, my ZX2 hood weighed 36.5 lbs stock, the CF composite one weighs 14 lbs - a 22 lb loss. I would expect the Contour's weight differential to be at least the same.

The hoods are clear coated, wet sanded, and machine polished prior to shipment. They have a very shiny deep lustre. Painting on them is the same as painting on a fiberglass hood, but once you see it in person, I don't think you'll want to.

I think the same principles that apply to steel hoods apply to this hood regarding bras chafing the finish. It's never good to have one on for extended periods of time - just ask your girlfriend wink

Longevity wise, since I haven't been doing this long, I'm really not sure. I believe by the nature of the materials used, the following could be true: oxidation of the surface clear coat, checking of the finish due to road debris, cracking of the hood if not properly secured (latches not adjusted and air cavitates under the hood). Remember, there are theorys and not ever anything that's happened to me or the people that make them.

Hope this helps.

Rob

And my 715 is a bit too tight.

Did you do the idler and the UDP, or just the UDP? I think I used a 730 before I put the idler on...

sorry to hear the belt was off... you are using a 730 right now? Did I originally give you a 715?
