I wanted to get an AEM Intake, and the obvious choice is the Focus model. Craig (StreetC0nceptz) already fitted a short-ram to a late model Zetec, so there should be no problem there. Then I got to thinking: What about the Cold Air Intake? I searched and found one post that said it might not fit because it is very closely fit to the Focus' engine bay. Anybody that can say either way, and that has tried fitting a Focus Cold Air Intake to their 'tour?

The AEM Short Ram pipe was not a direct fit for the Mondeo Zetec and needed cutting down and drilling. Dont think the cold air pipe will work at all

thanks perry. hmm..i see in the case of the focus iceman intake, they don't use a conical filter. how does that flat filter they provide work? was that meant to be inserted back into the original filter box, similar to the ones on our cars? meaning i'd have to put the stock intake box back on, or could i adjust it to work without the stock intake box? i do have the kkm, so if a conical filter was necessary, i have one.

Yea, I think that's just a K&N type filter that goes in the stock airbox. Then it replaces the tubing from the throttle body to the MAF. Then has a snorkle that goes from the stock airbox to the front of the car. Definitely would not work on the Contour.

Since you already have the KKM, stick with that until them Arizona boys figure something out, or until Rob at www.zx2racing.com comes out with his intake...

i was thinking about trying to make a custom cai out of pvc. run it down to the corner of the front bumper, that way no water would touch it because of the splash guard and it not being close enough to the bumper mouth to get any rain. kinda like a stock honda civic setup (i believe). also, it would be away from the hot engine bay and maybe get a little cool rush of air from the front mouth of the bumper. i'm not sure how feasible it'd be with just pvc and pvc fittings though. the fittings might not be at the right angles, i'm not positive on that one. i might give it a shot though. thanks again for the info.

I've been warned by more than one person who ought to know that you should never make an intake out of PVC, for both thermal and chemical reasons. Use ABS plastic instead.

too late. i was too cheap to get the abs. it seems to run fine, but maybe i'll run into some problems later, i don't know. when you say thermal chemical reasons, are you saying it will cause harm to my car or the environment or both?

Damn, I thought I replied to this yesterday morning, and the reply isn't here... The thermal reason is that PVC isn't heat resistant enough to stay dependably solid when it heats up under the hood. The chemical reason is that apparently the fumes that evaporate from the plasticizers in the PVC are bad for something in the engine... but I'm not clear on what. Maybe the catalytic converter.
