My contour is a 95 which I purchases new. It only has 45,000 miles on it. Did a visual inspection of the belt and it looks fine.

I haven't noticed anything bad without the cover in place. I did notice that it quit vibrating against the cover.

I did the washer fix las tnight, easy. Not sure that it worked though. Still loud when cold but it does sound quieter, could be perception though.. Also, did not see on the cover where anything was hitting or slapping so if this works I am not sure why?

I was thinking mainly of the person who suggested leaving the cover off, when I began writing that, but it occurred to me that a clumsy attempt at doing the ?washer mod? might result in washers being dropped into the timing belt area, with similar consequences.

Before I got rid of my previous car, a 1994 Tempo, I swapped radios. I liked the Tempo's radio better. That counts as a mod, doesn't it? I also kept one of my Tempo's wheels to use as a spare. I hate those stupid ?compact? spares that come with modern cars. Does this count as a mod? If so, I guess I have two mods. Replaced burned/melted blower switch and connector on 19 February 2002 with a 1P3T toggle switch from Marvac and a Molex connector from Rat Shack; I guess this now makes three mods.)
