Can you hear the fuel pump running before you try to crank it? Is the check engine light off while you crank?

Jim Johnson just made a nice post to the mailing list about a problem he was having, those were a couple symptoms he was describing.

Here's the message. Give that a read and see if it helps out: http://www.coldair.org/archives/0112/msg00010.html

Mine was just the opposite. Everything would power up, but the car wouldn't crank. I thought I tested everything, so tonite I bought a circuit breaker so I could see if I could find the break in the wire (I had a wire melt). I put the breaker in where the 20A igntion fuse is in the power block. I got in, unwired all the wires I had used to hotwire the car, turned the key and it started. I didn't know if I should be happy or pissed. It took me four days of tinkering with it, and it was a bad fuse, that I thought I had tested.

On the bright side, I got the dashboard dyed black while I was at it. smile

Anyway, to make a long story short, CHECK EVERY FUSE!

Found out what the problem was. It was the fuel pump. I got it back but the place i took it didnt look to find out that the gas gauge wasnt reading, so i took it back again this morning and they are fixing the wires.

That happened to me with my previous junker: bad heater blower fuse, which I swore I had checked.
