the packaging system made absolutley no sense in those days. and why they would make a manual transmission car without a tach is beyond me. without a speedometer i could understand, but a tach? so you're assuming that the non-performance oriented person purchasing the car would have enough knowledge of where to shift just by 'listening' for the shift points. com'on Ford...get real!!!


I have power windows etc without a tach... maybe they didn't bundle them together for atxes. As for hearing shift points, I think most stick drivers do pretty well with it by ear, even if they don't have perfect pitch, like I have. (middle A = 6600 RPM for a 4 cyl)
