Putting the flat stock between the grooves at the flywheel end of the cams IS NOT for removing the cam gear bolts. There is a SPECIAL CAM GEAR LOCKING TOOL for that specific purpose. The flat stock is only to keep the cams near TDC, as it won't fit in the grooves if the cams are 180* off.
This is to clear up any misunderstandings or bad semantics on my part.
