I beg to differ - the bigger the wire = less resistance = more current.
Example: I have had my own jumper cable made out of 00 ga. welders cable for quite some time now. A couple of years ago, a girl's battery was dead in the parking lot at school so I helped her try and push start it. Didn't work, so we used her cables (Wal Mart special 10 guage or something). Didn't work. I pull my cables out (longer than hers) - cranked on the first try.

Unless your trying to jump start a Semi, cables aren't going to make the difference. Your connections probably weren't good. Or the cables were broken in some manner.

I done one in my wife's car. took about 2hrs and I ran the wire inside the car!! All you have to do is go to Wal-Mart and buy a adjustable marine battery box and then go to Home Depot and buy either #1 or #2 copper wire and two connectors for hot and ground and have at it!!!! It cost me about $20!!! It doesn't look to bad either!!!

Oh yeah!!! it will loose power!!! in my wifes car the starter spins over slower now... YOU CAN TELL A DIFFERENCE!!!

I haven't lost any power since doing it.  My car turns over just as easily as it did before.

This is incorrect. The smaller the wire, the greater the resistance, the larger the wire, the less the resistance. As the battery is moved further away from the biggest electrical load (the starter), the larger wire is essentual to compensate for the additional cable length. Think about it for a minute. The largest wires on a car are the ones involved with the starter. If you think the smaller wire has less resistance, try cranking the engine through 18 ga wire (one of the smaller sizes used on a car). The wires would fry in a few seconds.
