Its not strange considering that every magazine that tested it has the top speed listed at 105(governed). Also ford has a reputation of over restraining its most enjoyable cars. Thunderbirds(104),Focus(107)

Perhaps they're measuring true top speed, where we're just stating indicated speed. I could see an inaccuracy of about 3 mph or so at that speed...

Naw...that doesn't make any sense, either.

It was my understanding that the cutoff is supposed to hit at 112. In mine it happens at an indicated 110. I think what's happening is that your speedometer is reading lower than most of ours do. Whether the actual speed is 105 or 110 I don't know.

112 would make more sense (and is a number that I can remember being tossed around a couple years ago), because 205/60-R15 would be 2.0% too slow compared to 185/70-14.. So an indicated 110mph would be a hair above 112.

I hit 180kph a couple of times myself. I believe that number is the equivelent to 112mph. What I would like to know is what would the zetecs top speed be drag limited!

Could different years have different cutoffs programmed into the computer? I know that Dodge Stratus will do 125 in 98 but 99's only go 111 (V6)

Also I am told that the faster you go the more inaccurate the speedo is (in most cases)

Don't know about the rest of you but I've
got the 250/60/15 tires on my car and I had it recalibrated a while back. I testet it with my gps and there was only a mile difference in speed readings throughout the range of speed. My little Z'
cut off right at 110 on speedo and 111.7
reading on the gps. I'd say it's closer to 112 then.
