BBorges: Just for you, I did a little observing this morning coming to work.

At 5500 rpms, these are the speeds I was turning:

1st: ~28
2nd: ~48
3rd: ~72

I didn't have the opportunity to try 4th or 5th, but next time I drive it that hard, I'll post it for you.

But I still have a question.... htey are talking about the 95 SE V6...

is the MTX for the GL the same as the one for the V6 ????

Are they the MTX-75 ?? is that what it is ??
If not.. how can I find the drive ratios for the ZETEC MTX ????

Actually, I cruised right along in 5th gear, both hands tightly gripping the wheel, and eyes glued to the road. It was at night, and even though the Tour drove beautifully, I wasn't about to take any chances. Nice smooth straight aways, and traffic was real light. I have the tach in my zetec, I have the sport model. My curiousity is starting to arise, and I think I'm going to try this again, but I'll pay more attention to the tach. If it didn't have that peskey ESL, I'm sure I could have gone much faster

It'll handle even better than you think, I promise you! I did it on S. I-17 between Flagstaff and Phoenix. Twisty road and not at all flat...what a rush!!!

i've hit the speed limiter many times in my mystique, it's the V6 so its not hard it'll get up there in no time there is soooo much left in both the duratec and zetec (i've got a focus ZX3 with the zetec also hit the limiter in that car a couple of times)
both at approximatly 110mph in 4th gear with somewhere between 500 and 800 revs left with both cars. the zetec focus takes a little while longer that the v6 mystique

They may not be the same, like I posted in my first post. I think the final drives are different between the Zetec and Duratec, but I have no idea where to find them. (The MTX-75 is used in both the Zetec and Duratec, but my understanding is that the final drive ratio is different between them)

Now, keep in mind, that the speedo may have been calibrated for a different size tire (perhaps the 14" tire), your tire may be worn down, etc etc etc. I'd say that 4.06 is pretty dang close to what you've got. As the speeds get higher, differences in speedo calibration become more obvious.

Looking at those numbers, the ones we get from the calculator and what D Davis observed, it would seem as if I've heard stuff wrong and the final drive between the two engines is the same. You'd have to find someone that knows more than me to know for sure.

You can get a small tach that you could either mount in the coin tray or on an a pillar guage pod, to satisfy your curiosity and desire for a tach. I think they go for under $100.

I have hit 110(speed limiter) in 4th gear....

Oh yeah... forgot about those stupid damn things... what's the point if you are already doing 110?
