So...stay in fourth until you hit about 108mph? At that point you're hitting(or have already hit)the rev limiter in which case you're doing extreme harm to your engine internally. I think shelling out the 250 for a superchip is a more reasonable approach than shelling out 2800 for a new engine because you drove it past its limits. But thats me. LoCo, I didn't mean, in any way, to sound derogatory in my initial post I apologize. My intent was not to upset you...just, at the time, 120 seemed a little unreasonable but then I realize thats only about 12 mph faster than what I do. So. I'd like to get one of those GPS units so I can accurately measure my speed. From everything I've read our speedos get fairly inaccurate around 100-110 mph. Also, I understand what you're saying about Brad's guages except that, well, they're just faces...they don't play a part in the actual speedometer guages reading.

In the dim past when my 2.0L Zetec just had a K&N I have a Brands Hatch Race track certificate for 136 MPH. Saloon, MTX. Now top out at over 150 GPS (Heavily Modded engine (192 BHP)and body)
Also hitting the Rev limiter will do NO harm to your engine. Its there to stop you going into areas that will. Mine is set at 8000 rpm (Engine Balanced) and I hit it Daily (Hourly even) and my engines done 120K. Only those who skimp on Oil and filters need fear high revs
My two best, an M3 round several roundabouts and a Carrerra 4 up to 60 MPH (where it suddenly found its turbo's and went). The look on his face was brill!

Well it didn't sound as I was that high in the rpms. I heard more road noise tahn anything. I heard the engine rev louder when hitting the gas hard. All I know is that I was going faster than my previous 108. I really maintain my baby. It runs great. My next project is engine internals. I didn't mean to flame. Sorry SQPlus. I guess madmole has the fastest Zetec.

Unfortunately not, there is some mad bugger here in England that has dropped a 450BHP Cossie engine in his Mondy it is faster on the 0-100-0 than an F360 or Diablo There are other Brits who visit this forum who are currently building units that should be around 210 bhp or so

I've taken mine to the speed limiter multiple times and have always paid close attention to RPMs. At ~110 (w/ MTX) you should be sitting at 6100 rpms (I was, anyway). That's still about 600 rpms from the rev limiter. I've never heard of the 4-5 shift tricking the limiter, though. I may have to try that this weekend EDIT: Page 2, girls!!!

I stand corrected.
So, has anyone else tried this 'trick' to see if it works?
I still don't think, on a stock motor, bouncing on the rev limiter is a good thing.
Madmole, your car I can understand higher revs being safe as it has extensive work done to make it capable of high rev/high HP driving. 'Engine Balanced' for example.
Maybe its just me being cautious so I'll get out of this discussion. Thanks to all.

That was just my attempt at a little sarcasm. The phrase 'mildly boring' comes to mind. That is the Honda Insight...Electric/Gas Hybrid car. If you ever see one they're ugly as sin. It probably has a 0-60 time that compares to an SVTs' 1/4 mile time! The Toyota Echo is the same way. They seem extremely slow when I've been around an insight. They do get something like 60 MPG Highway though...so thats good...I guess.

You may laugh at the Insight or Prius now, but I bet by 2005 hybrid-electrics are going to start being very important in performance circles, especially in street drag racing. Electric motors can add huge amounts of torque, especially in low revs. A heavier-duty hybrid electric can probably be faster off the line than any conventional engine of the same weight. The ultimate car for super high mileage is probably a hybrid, but not of gasoline and electricity... a hybrid of diesel and steam. Steam power from exhaust heat could be the ultimate fuel saver... but it would only work after the car was fully warmed up.
