I don't believe the cables are threaded.
brad, this is kinda what I suspected, except mine did it from the beginning.
Also, an interesting thought is that I have a 2000 car built in the middle of the run (#1065) and I actually have the Aluminum shifter base like the E0 cars.
Anshutz, I have seen a few other cars w/ the same problem (I know PhattSpatt's car and another guy's car do it)
