I am totally ready to get a CTA cold air intake, but their website doesn't yet say they have a pre-98 Zetec version. Has anyone tried yet to install one on an early zetec? Or is it my job to be guinea pig?

What's the trouble spot -- is it just the IAT sensor?

96 GL Zetec ATX, white with pinstripe, nickname " Sam Smooth "
mods so far: CTA intake with homemade heat shield, KVR drilled front rotors & carbon pads w/ 500° fluid
planned mods: exhaust (want to keep it quiet), e-ram (awaiting installation), diablo chip
involuntary mods: compression increased after head gasket failure

Yes

Chris is working on as we speak I'm sure.
You don't need to be the guinea pig its a simple thing
Its even as simple as the IAT sensor wink

I forget which is which but one year group has a threaded insert for the IAT while the other group has a press in type laugh

I have installed it on my 96 tour. I had to drill te hole out a bit for the sensor. Thats it though, works great.

Does anyone know if the pre98 and 98+ IAT sensors are the same function-wise?

Seems like the easiest thing to do would be for us pre98 people to buy the newer sensor, and plug it in. It just clips into a wiring harness, or at least mine does.

I imagine they are a pretty similiar but you know how Ford is...the sensing wire is probably heated to a different temp when its made thus causing it to throw out a code and turn on the CEL!!

Also, considering how much MAFs and TBs cost that little sensor is probably a $75 part...now you're looking at $200 for a new intake. I think not! wink

Well, I was kinda thinking of just getting the newer style IAT from a junkyard, unless they're being a pain and making people buy the whole intake assembly! eek

I may have to look into this in the future. The ol' wallet is about to become significantly thinner with the purchase of wheels! smile

Just wondering, what size you guys drilled out the hole and whether you threaded it back in or just pushed it in? We need a test vehicle to get the correct sizing.
