Is it worthwhile replacing the resonator & plenum with a smooth pipe, even if you still have the original airbox? (I really don't want to give up cold fender air.)

Terry or someone was saying that the manifold itself is the worst spot on the Zetec intake. What's your take on that?

mods so far: CTA intake with homemade heat shield, KVR drilled front rotors & carbon pads w/ 500° fluid
planned mods: exhaust (want to keep it quiet), e-ram (awaiting installation), diablo chip
involuntary mods: compression increased after head gasket failure

the CTA intake seems promising

You actually want a long smooth tube. the longer length gives the air time to settle and stabilise into a more laminar flow.

I agree also that you want a cold as possible air going into that tube.

The Manifold uner the TB is absolutely crap, but as nobody yet does a replacement we are stuck with it.

Best answer is 4 direct throttle body injectors (like the Weber Alpha kit)that does away with the whole lot but its very expensive

Would such de-turbulencizing be all for naught once the air hits the bad quadruple-saxophone manifold, or would such a thing really gain you some horsepower?

I'm thinking of just getting a smooth right-angle bend and straight section of plastic sewer pipe of a suitable diameter. (Plastic so it doesn't conduct heat.)

Then, maybe, the e-Ram in the wheelwell...

Does the Focus use the same one?

There is a replacement for the manifold. Its just too damned expensive. I saw a hi-po intake manifold in the Ford Preformance catalog that goes for $500 IIRC. eek Its listed for the Focus and ZX2, but Im sure it would fit. Anyone wanna lend me $500??
