So far no ones has reported engine failures because of high reading so it must not be too big of a problem. I understand your dilema though. Have you used the 'Search' feature to see if someone has tried the dual fan mount. I seem to recall a thread about that sometime ago. FWIW, there is a dual fan shroud on eBay right now. Search under 'ford contour' and you'll find it. Good Luck.
