I have been contimplating a delema for some time now. I have a '93 Probe GT that is, well for lack of a better word, slow. Besides that, she is getting up there in the milage department. I quite frankly don't want to rebuild this engine. I have located a '96 Contour 2.5L through my dealings with local junk yards in the K.C. area. (I do collision estimates for a body shop for a living & I call salvage yards daily). Anyway has anyone, or does anyone know anybody who has done a similar swap on a Mazda based car (626, MX6). I was rased a Ford fan & would like to complete This car the way it should have come from the foctory. Later I am hoping to pick up a European ST24 Estate trans & rear-end but for now I'll keep it simple. I would appriciate any information I can get my hands on. Thanks

I had 1993 PGT and I think you should go with the KLZ motor it would be alot easier than doing an engine swap. The KLZ is the japanese verse of the 2.5 probe motor a is a direct drop in. Cruise some of the probe sites, they will have alot more info. If my memory serves correct I think it got 200hp out of the box. try this link.. http://www.naplesnews.com/staff/fortier/suprprobe/Welcome.html

A friend of mine has a 93. We used to autocross together in college. Now he's moved on to SCCA and doing quite well. But, he's blown two motors so far.

Definitely a difficult to impossible swap. Different architecture, different block dimensions, different electronics, no interchangeable parts...

Put a yamaha 3.0 out of a Taurus SHO in it... it has been done and you will have more power then the duratec can offer. -Mark

Put a turbo on it. I've read about it being done on a site, it looked really good.
