Go to General Post and look at " Removed air intake res."

Here's what I did and it great with my air intake system. After reading that post early to day, I went out to the garage and did this to my car, I simply pulled it out with some force, then removed the the part by the fuse box(under hood)w/two screws, then took a piece of two inch flex hose and took it behind the mesh on the bumper, then took another piece and took behind the drivers headlight. Hope somemore people do this, One more thing if you have any kind of force air induction it adds a lot more of that air suken noise that we all like.
Later, Nick

Hi guys,

This sound like a good MOD but there's only one thing I'm worried about. I've ask my
mechanic about this and he does not recommend it for the following reason:
1- I'm in Ontario Canada and we have to get
an emission test every 2 years.
2- My mechanic tends to think it will affect
the results and may cause my Contour to
fail the next time I pass the test.

Again, my mechanic is not sure. He said he would look it up but I'd like to have an input from Contour.Org members. I'm sure somebody has asked themselves this question before.

Thanks!!

I personally don't see how this intake mod could affect emissions at all. You're not messing with any sensors, the MAF, or other emissions-critical components. It might cause problems with a visual inspection, but I doubt that too. If a KKM aftermarket intake can pass an emissions test, then this can too.

Hey Drumnut,

Appreciate the response. I totally agree with you and you just reassured me concerning this. I'm a wannabe mechanic and I'm still very easy to convince even on the most obvious stuff. smile

Again, thank you very much for the input.

One way to look at is, the emission is the air coming out of the motor, NOT the air going into the motor. Basicly the way look at it is this isa just going to your air intake very loud when you step on b/c of the colder air going into the motor.

One other thing, the only way this mod will hurt you is if the winter you leave it hooked up to the air filter, that will be just way to cold for the motor.

Like Nicholas said, your emissions are just that...EMISSIONS, something your car is emitting, they don't test the quality of the air going in the motor(that's only as clean as the air you breath)but the chemicals in the gases that come OUT of your motor. I wouldn't sweat it in the least bit.

You may also want to consider the effect winter air will have, it will be extremely cold and dense. maybe even too cold. Best way to know is just test it out and see.

Once I get my car back I'll be working on a custom ram air intake to mate with my KKM intake. We'll see how that goes. Good Luck! laugh

i did basicly the same thing to my 95, and i love it. the car gets off the line so much faster now. that is definetly a good posting and i agree, more of you people out there should do it. it helps a lot. another thing that helps with that is also opening the exhaust up at the same time that you do the air intake. the more air u suck in, the more u need to get out. keep it in mind peeps.
later. SPANKY

the colder the air going into an internal combustion engine the better.

The engine is happiest when two conditions are met:
1. It is fully warmed up.
2. The air going into the intake is very cold.

The colder the air, the more dense it is, and the higher your compression ratio will be. I can notice a BIG difference when I compare my Connie's performance on a 105 degree day to what she can do when it gets near freezing.

So, the really cold air won't hurt it. And think about it- when you first start it in the morning, it's just that cold anyhow with no heat to draw on, so what difference would it make?
