One more thing I forgot to add. The reason for the flange you have to make, is b/c the cat. on the contour is not the same as the focus

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.... So I'm going to need an adapter thingie to connect the header to the cat, huh? You wouldn't be interested in making a few of those adapters and selling them to us, would ya?

For the long tube, we'd need to get a high flow cat to connect to the header and have it welded up by an exhaust shop, huh? So install the header and drive for a few miles to a shop to have em weld on a cat and connect to the rest of the system. No biggie. Vroom vroom.

Does your Catco cat sit in place of the stock cat (is it a direct replacement somehow?), or did you put it under the car someplace, maybe where the resonator should go.

A long tube header can be had at www.focussport for $375. Figure another $100 for a cat, and probably $75 more for an exhaust shop to weld it on. Gettin expensive.

Well Perry about flange thingie that askes about, I used to work at a machine shop, not any longer thoug SORRY. and the for the high flow cat. from CATCO is a unaverisal cat fo $49. at SUMMIT, and I put it where the res. used to be, it would be to hot to put it next to the header. Also, I guess I didnt put this in very good words early, IF you buy the shorty header IT WILL NOT be a direct fit to your cat. in the contour. THE best way to do this is to put the header on and take a cat. off a focus and cut the end off of it and put it on the header, and then buy a high flow cat. and relocate it. Perry and every one else, let me know if this helps you any better

Hmm. Ok, I think I understand.

heads -> header -> intake side of cat off of focus cat -> pipe that curves around engine to -> flex pipe (?) -> cat in resonator's old place.

Long tubes are probably better tho. So I could just do

heads -> header -> flex pipe -> cat -> cat back. Probably get a little more power that way. Time to do some decision making. At least I know that a Focus header will bolt up to the heads on a Contour.

Basically, they aren't a direct fit and you're going to lose your stock cat. If/when (money is getting short) I do this, I'm going to go with the long tube headers from FocusSport.com.

You're going to have to put a pipe on the end of the header to get up to the flex pipe, and then put a cat under the car where the resonator used to be. I'm going to also consider a glass pack to quiet things down some more while I'm at it, but that wouldn't be necessary. Should be a fun project if I can scrape the money together.

In other news, I got the intake pipe from ZXtuner today. I'm going to test fit it this weekend and send it back so he can figure out how to make them up for the rest of ya'll.

Why not just get rid of the cat all together : ) Here in florida we dont have emissions tests.... On the JBA, wouldnt it be close to wires and stuff? I wouldnt want to melt anything!

If you have header that has been JET HOT COATED it will make the temp. go down about 150-200 deg. in the motor.

When someone has completed this setup please give us a list of what we need to purchase, how much for install, and performance increase. TIA!
