randy, i appreciate your positive attitude and i agree with you, but you better re-read the article. the tester mentioned that the mobil 1 filters are- too- questionable, some claims that they leak at the base, and they are also lower on the filtering aspect than the leader- the purolator pure one. sounds like purolator makes THE best oil filter on the market.

i will always have a comeback! :o)

Next time you are in the auto store simply pick up a Mobil 1 and a Delco or Motorcraft etc. and see what you feel as to the weight. Mobil 1 weighs a ton more. Does that mean better, who knows. My oil analysis likes Amsoil/Hastings, Pure Ones and Mobil 1, Mobil 1 by far the most expensive.

I have been using mostly fram for the last 5 years and all cars have ran well woth no problems! It is very important to do your 3k miles oil and filter. Grade of filter is less important!

By no means am I saying that fram is a top notch oil filter, but If proper maintenance (oil and filter) DONE ON REGULAR 3K MILES INTERVALS) There will be no problem!

Agree with CRANK, but if you want to go beyond 3000 miles I do not suggest using crap filters like Fram or petroleum oil. I change my Zetec once a year using synthetics oil and Pure One filter.

Any piece of junk will work (there is nothing to filter out at 3000 miles) so if you cahnge it then I agree, no problems.

Tbunder:
I did notice the questions involving the Mobil 1 filter, but have made the decision to buy them in spite of this. My reasons are:
1. The purolator has- as the article states- SO many pleats that it might restrict flow, and
2. Those incidents of the filter coming apart are unsubstantiated. They MIGHT be happening. They MIGHT not, he cites nobody in particular. He also says, if my memory serves properly, that these are ISOLATED incidents.

Let me just reread the page.

Okay, well that server is down or something and the page won't come up. Did the address change?

That is how I remember the article.

Thunder, in the end, the tester says he would take the Mobile 1 over the Pure One because of this concern. As a Duratec guy, we have concerns about oil starvation. This has been on my mind as almost all failures have been with the Motocraft/Purolator. Of course, this is by far the most common brand used here so it (probably) means nothing. But the SVT Duratec application stretches the limits of the filter application by virtue of reving to 7K RPM or higher with chips. This would result in increased oil flow so that it may max out the filter in a way that doesnt occur with 99% of applications. Anyway, hedging my bets & using Mobile One (although Terry likes another synthetic - Hard Driver which sounds good & they have great flow data).

Wix and Motorcraft... two good choices.
The main problem with Fram is as much as 1/2 of the filters they sell are repackaged offshore stuff. I know a company in Boston that sell to them. The filters come in from China orange painted, and Fram labels and packages them.
