Hey my exhaust expert I did not get the Y pipe for reasons out of my control but I got the resonator taken out and had a glass pack put in now i had the guys at the muffler shop put new screws in the section where the main CAT is the reason is I want to gut the cat But I don't want to loose back preasure or be going around getting noice tickets,(I hate to loud exhuast and in auto-X here in UT there is noice restrictions)
Here is what I have: two stock pre cats stock main cat, glass pack like yours, and completly straight through mufflers so what do think I should do should I gut the main one or not, I thought of gutting the pre's but might as well get headers but thats a little steep.

PLEASE HELP.

thanks

Leave the main cat alone, gut the pre-cats and port out the primaries of the front manifold (you'll see what I mean when you have the manifold off- it could use some help!) and put it all back together. Total cost: Less than $20 for a good boost in power and a bit louder exhaust. It probably will rasp a bit when first started, but that goes away after a few minutes. A how-to on the manifolds is somewhere in the Performance forums..I would highly suggest removing the front manifold (a real PITA!) to do the porting as those primaries are very choked down with extra gunk from where the flange is welded to the primaries...
Even when you do this you still won't be as fast as me ... laugh

NOS is cheating... wink

I ported out the primaries with a Dremel tool and a bunch of sanding drums. To gut them I drilled a hole in the bottom of the front one about 1/2" big, stuck some long metal rods in there and hit them with a hammer repeatedly. You need to get ALL the stuff out of there- not just the cat material but the steel wool bands and the felt type stuff as well..I used a flashlight to make sure I got everything. Then I had a friend of mine weld the hole shut which only took 1 min...

You only need to port out the front one as they weld on the inside- the rear one is welded on the outside and it's OK from the factory.
Let me know if you have any other questions...
