They will likely not rub as long as the offset is correct. But 205/40 is way too small for your car. The speedo will be well off and the tire is too narrow for a 7" wide rim. 215 is the minimum I recommend and it goes with a 45 series tire on 17 rims to fit a Contour properly. I'd ask about 215/45R17 or 225/45R17.
