If you do, make sure you calculate how much your speedo is going to be off.

40 profile should be right for a 18" wheel, not 16! Depending on your year, I would suggest either a 50 or 55 series.

I believe that is similar to the size SVTCole chose for his SVT that he was AutoX'ing.

He wanted a smaller diameter, lighter combination that kept him in a stock class. He seems to have done well at the SpringZing AutoX (check the AutoX forums for more details)

The one concern is the weight rating of those tires. They seemed really low, for the Contour application, and especially for AutoX use where you just might have one wheel off the ground and half the mass of the car standing on one of the two front tires.

That would by my only concern, could such "small" tires adequately support the weight of the car.

FWIW,

TB

I know I'm new here but take a look at what happened to me with 205/40/16's on stock Ford wheels. frown

Why? What is wrong with 215/50R16?

What Java said. I have 215/40-16, but that is on SVT 6.5" rims. Don't try mounting on anything smaller...that is already below recommended rim width. I also would not recommend that size if you routinely carry more than one passenger. With a 63% front weight distribution you are every close to the load limit of the front tires.

Don't do it. If you think handling will be improved, I think you are mistaken. It'll look silly, screw up the gearing (probably only can go 50 mph in 2nd) and screw up the speedo as you say.

225/50/16 is what I'm going to get soon.
