that is not necessarily true. just make sure one gets the correct offset and width wheel and one can be completely rub free.
i went with 17s and am wishing i went with 18s. but i didn't really have enough money at the time anyway.
i'd never race on either of them. racing should be done on stock sizing in our case to keep the weight/cost down. (just like someone said).
and no chance of shredding $$ tires, or rolling onto $$$$ wheels.
I've been driving on 16"+ wheels and bilstein sports for 6 years and never bent or even scratched a rim. i drive on 17s and stock SVT suspension right now. i've been lucky a few times. i just do my best to avoid pot holes.
