i just got back from pep boys and talked to some guy that owns a contour as well. well, he typed my information in for a credit card and i got approved. this led to the topic of me purchasing rims and tires so that he could buy my stock 15in rims that come on the GL models. so to my question, is it true, as he said, that you truly can not go any bigger than 15s without raising the strut tower or other miscellaneous work. the way i look at it is, if i already have 15s, why would i buy 15s. for all of you out there with 17s or bigger, did you have to modiy anything when you got new rims and tires? id appreciate any help possible. thank you all.

no modification. sounds like the guy is a moron. just make sure the diameter of the tire is roughly the same as that of your stockers. use this as a calculator to figure out what size tire you need for whatever size rim you get.

i went form 15" to 17" rims

the lower profile on the side walls keeps them the same "stock" diameter

just make sure the guy you talk to knows his ****

one place told me i need 205 45 17 to keep my stock profile, he said the 45 is all that matters

but the place i like and trust said a 215 45 is a slightly bigger side wall, 45% of the width or 215 would be a little larger than the 205 but iwts what i needed, makes sense if you do the math
