Greetings!
I got the new tires installed today. Finally decided to go with the OEM tires, as the other suggested ones were back ordered, etc. The local tire shop (America's Tire) matched the prices from Tirerack and also includes free flat repairs and rotations.
Anyway, to my question. One of the rims has a dent on it. The tire installer showed me how it bounces when he tries to balance it, and he said that he will put it on the back for the moment, as it will be pretty noticeable when it gets moved to the front. He said that they could send it out for repair and it would take about a week, and would cost $125. What should I do? Is it okay/safe to get it repaired? Should I replace it? It is available at Tirerack for $149. Is the repair too much?
Please advice.
Regards,
Emil

welcome to the CEG!
what year svt rim is it? $125 is a bit much to repair it, considering you can get good used ones cheaper. the only problem is that they are in short supply right now.
if they are E0 (1998 svt) they are less in numbers. If they are E1 (1998.5-2000 svt) they are more in numbers but more wanted.
i'd get a new one if you can really get it for $25 more. but then you'll have to pay shipping, and then wait, and THEN get the tire mounted to it.
good luck! -eric

Hi Eric!
I have a '99 SVT Contour.
The new rim is from tirerack, and it is $149 + shipping (approx. $12) and no sales tax. I got my tires mounted for $10 each yesterday.

Emil

I think I got the same problem you do... although nobody's pointed it out to me. I must've balanced my wheels like mad and there's one that will not sit still. Wobbles like crazy on the road and drives me insane. What's the correct way I should check for this?

For $25.00 more I'd buy the new rim, that is if you can't find a good used one that is I need a rims repaired as well and Discount Tire told me the same thing, $125.00 plus S/H. Now the rims is only $160 and its a 17" aftermarket rim ( Mille Miglia Cello )
