I'm currently running 225/50ZR16 Kumho 712's on my stock E1 SVT rims, so you can run them. I get slight rubbing in the rear when heavily loaded down and going over bumps on the inner liners (no fender rub). I'm not lowered either.
As far as Kumho goes, Brad seems to be deadset bent against these tires. I don't think they are nearly as terrible as he lets on. I've run the KDW's and they ARE a better tire, but are unforgivably noisy for their price IMHO. The Kumhos give up some sidewall stiffness and performance without a doubt, but unless you are going to the track often, you won't see an appreciable difference in performance in the real world. If you have questions on the Kumhos as a result, I've heard the Sumitomo HTRZ II's line is nearly as inexpensive and better overall. Good luck!
