If you care about price then get the Sumitimo HTRZ II's. They are on tirerack.com's top 10 list for best performance tires. They are also the cheapest in price. $94/each

Spectra's got it right. I've got 215-45-17 Sumitomos. They ride smoother and are quiter than my stock SVT 16s. And they handle great.

For the money I think they are awesome. I'm looking at getting a set of those or Falken Zeix 502s. Awesome Awesome tires IMO.

I havve a theory about the Kumho 712. There is a V rated and a W-rated version. I suspect those that say the 712 is squirmy probably have the V-rated tire. Just a theory, though. A friend of mine ordered a set of W-rated ones that should be delivered today so I am interested in his feedback.

I had the 712 V-rated's for a short time, and I loved them, but I am a newbie to the performance tire world.
The one person I've heard complain about them was into some pretty detailed technical analysis, and compared them to tires twice as dear. This guy really knew tires, and didn't care about cost.
For most of us, I think it's a great high-performance tire value.

The 712 is not a bad tire, just not an "ultra-high performance" tire. You get what you pay for! I had a set in 205/50/15 on my 'tour for a while and they were a very nice tire for street use and for having some fun in the corners. But, I took them to the track and they did not keep up. They got greasy after a few laps (even after playing w/tire pressures all day), squealed loudly when cornering, slow lap times due to lack of grip, etc... If you're only driving on the street and not into having the best brand name on your car they are a very good option. I hear the Falkens and Sumitomo's are also good, but I've never used them. HTH Oh, and never try and drive in the snow w/them!
